It left me wanting more, but I did learn a lot. I loved it.

I have been writing, editing, and proofing on the side for a number of years, but only on a small scale. I wanted to expand my business and thought taking a course would look good on my LinkedIn profile. Besides that, I wondered what I didn’t know about the industry. This proofreading course helped me with the things I didn’t know, like style guides, formatting terms, and html. It also has a useful section about finding work.

Overall I found the proofreading course fulfilled my expectations. I didn’t need the grammar review, but otherwise it filled in the gaps I needed filled. My one suggestion would be to fix the tests so there are no fill-in-the-blanks. With this format, if you don’t use the exact word or punctuate the word exactly as the system expects, you will get it wrong, even if someone looking at the test would have considered it correct.

There was a funny caption under one image that only those of us who loved The Princess Bride would have caught: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” Brilliant! Thanks for the chuckle!

I learned a lot – I agree with the person above, the fill-in-the blank answers leave something to be desired. But definitely helped me as a refresher course.

It is definitely worth the money. The information on style guides, the publishing industry and the proofreaders’ responsibilities were the highlights of the course for me. All the lessons are interesting, succinct and important. They keep you moving on. I agree with another reviewer about the fill-in-the-blanks test questions. The exact wording should not be a requirement for passing the question. I keep good notes, but not necessarily verbatim. I filled in some blanks with very acceptable synonyms to the word in the answer, but was marked off because it wasn’t the exact word used in the lesson. This is me nitpicking. The course was excellent for me as an experienced writer who wishes to get into proofreading as a break from writing and also in addition to. Thank you Inklyo. My time was well spent.

I really enjoyed this course. As someone who’s been informally proofreading for some time, I needed something that covered all the basics to fill in the gaps that I’d missed. The lessons were also easy to understand and the quizzes helped a lot with the knowledge. The games seemed a bit unnecessary and were kind of cumbersome though. After the first two in the proofreading/editing bundle, I just stopped doing them.

I chose this course site specifically because of the ESL segments of its lessons, since I work abroad and help both students and fellow teachers with their English writing, so I’d like to touch on those in particular. The ESL lessons focus on the types of errors a proofreader might be expected to find specifically in writing by a non-native English writer. They’re not all obvious to a native speaker and it helped to have them pointed out.

The only thing I wished was different was there is no option for all the lessons to be in a kind of textbook offline—defeating the meaning of “online course,” yes, I know, but I live in wi-fi limbo. I do get that Inklyo is protecting its income as a business, as is its rightful perogative, but having to log on for the information I’ve paid to access everytime was frustrating and I’m sure anyone who doesn’t have reliable, 24-hour access to Internet would feel the same. A downloadable option, maybe something copyright protected to prevent wanton sharing, might help.

I learned a lot from this course and was particularly pleased to have guidance on web proof-reading. Like other students, I believe the tests need tweaking so that a correct answer is not marked wrong because it does not match the exact wording of the text.

I found the course interesting to take and well presented visually. It’s a course I would recommend to others.

I found this course quite interesting, and it filled in several knowledge gaps. As a former word processor (WordPerfect 5.0 way back when), I was familiar with some of the terminology and processes. There were a few ah-ha! moments, though, when I learned something that would have made my life a bit easier back then.

I believe a useful addition would be a few documents at the end of the course to provide students the opportunity to practice what they learned, and perhaps point out areas of weakness for additional review.

I would definitely recommend the course, and if it is any indication, the editing course I’ll be starting next week will also be interesting and informative.

As someone who never edited professionally I learned a lot during the course.

If I have a couple of notes, they would echo the sentiments previously expressed (see the review from Jeannette, October 3, 2016).
Firstly, I wish there were no “fill-in-the-blanks” questions as the correct answers expressed with a synonym of the word used in the text are considered wrong by the automated quiz appraisal system.
Secondly, one or two exercises after each lesson would be fun and useful to the process of learning.
But all in all, the explanations are clear and the material is well presented. Thanks the team at Scribendi!

Proofreading Bootcamp took me a little while to complete but was 100% worth it! Proofreading Bootcamp went into more detail than I thought and that was very useful. I chose to do this course because I wanted to start my own proofreading business. I also chose this course over proofreading courses offered by other companies because it taught me what I needed and wanted to know, it was self-paced, easy to understand, and pretty affordable. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who is pursuing a business in proofreading or looking to brush up on skills they may already have.

I found the course overall to be very helpful with many aspects of proofreading, though I found it rather surprising that there are no practice exams upon which to apply what we otherwise learn. My recommendations would be to integrate practice exams into the curriculum.

As others have mentioned here, the fill-in-the-blank questions leave much to be desired. I would otherwise recommend this course.

This was a terrific class for this beginner. It was informative and allowed me to progress until I had confidence in my understanding. I was sad to see it conclude, and have already reviewed the material a second time.
I would have loved to have the opportunity to actually proofread an item and get feedback before concluding this class. Otherwise, I consider this to be a great investment.

Thank you for offering this informative course! Although I am an educator myself, I learned a great deal and enjoyed the curriculum, pace and and touch of humour. In fact, I went on to enrol in the Inkylo Editing Bootcamp as well. Great information and value!

Having taken a college course on editing I wanted to see the differences. In class there is the opportunity to discuss with fellow pupils and ask questions, however the content was different. The Inklyo course was more up-to-date in that it concentrated on computer use and I appreciated the balanced layout. On consideration I learnt as much on the Inklyo course as I did in college – and it was much cheaper.

Very thorough, comprehensive and useful course. I won’t be using all the material it covered but now I have the resources and know where to find it. At the very least I know what people are talking about and it helps me to look knowledgeable. The course is very reasonably priced and definitely worth it.

I have learned a lot from the course. I am applying the additional knowledge to my work — checking our teachers’ instructional materials. The price for the course is reasonable. What I also like about it is the lifetime access to the lessons. I sometimes use them as reference when working. I would just like to suggest that students be given an essay to proofread and be graded for it. I have to go — my editing course is waiting for me. (Yes, I also enrolled in the Editing Boot Camp.
